Kalymnos is fast becoming a major sports climbing venue for tourist climbers. The amount of good quality limestone and the potential for development is vast. The Island's resorts are still relatively un-spoilt, and off season prices for accommodation are very reasonable.
In December 2003 Aris Theodoropoulos produced a new guide in 5 Languages: English, Greek, German, French, Italian.
This will doubtless further increase the popularity of this island's climbing.
A number of top names have held climbing events and courses on Kalymnos and indeed the 2nd international climbing festival was held on Kalymnos October 2004.

getting there
During the main season (May to October) the best option for international travellers is to fly to Kos. Busses and taxis (€10 - €16) take you to the nearby port of Mastichari, where at least 3 ferries a day run to the main Kalymnos port of Pothia. Journeys from the airport to the port are 10 - 20 mins, and the ferry crossing takes 45 mins.
There are plenty of restaurants and bars at Mastichari, if you have to wait for a ferry, and there are a couple of cheap hotels if you get a flight coming in late.
Flights to Rhodes airport are also available during the main season, with a 2½ hour ferry crossing to Kalymnos
Flights to Athens operate all year round, and a connecting flight to Kos can be taken, or a ferry direct to Kalymnos (13 hours)
At the other end, if your accommodation provider doesn't pick you up from the ferry (see Melina's Apartments Costs), it's probably best to get a taxi to Massouri (about €10), though there are fairly regular busses.
